Mount Forest TD Canada Trust working to support troops

When it comes to supporting Canadian troops, there’s no place like home.

As a result, the TD Canada Trust here is helping to support Operation Santa Claus Support Our Troops

An email sent to the Wellington Advertiser from branch manager Elizabeth Wolff stated, “as Canadians, we enjoy a lot of freedom and benefits that we owe greatly in part to our men and women fighting overseas.”

Wolff added “Operation Santa Claus Support Our Troops was started last year primarily in the Wasaga Beach area.  It was very successful as we were able to send approximately 1,000 care packages to our deployed Canadian Forces members.

“The packages were a holiday gift filled with items donated by generous individuals and the WalMart in Wasaga Beach.  Packages also include letters and Christmas cards from school children, loved ones, and local community groups. These special packages bring a feeling of home and support to those deployed soldiers overseas.”

This year, she said, the local bank is involved with the other 18 branches that make up that district.

“It is our goal this year to greatly surpass the amount of boxes that we had sent last Christmas.  To be exact, our goal is 2,500 boxes.  With all the help from all of the amazing TD Canada Trust Employees in Georgian Trails District, we are “extremely” excited and confident we will meet this goal.”

The local branch also wears its “Support our Troops” T-shirts on Fridays.

She said the idea is “so that our troops can enjoy a little taste of home.”

The following items will be accepted:

– cash donations;

– personal hygiene items (hand sanitizers, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, razors;

– nutritious items, snack and non-perishables (cereal and energy bars, cans of tuna, instant soups, sunflower seeds, microwave popcorn, coffee, tea, and cookies); and,

– entertainment items (foam footballs, sidewalk chalk, and frisbees).
