Mount Forest photographers work at Dufferin County Museum art show

Mount Forest photographer Cliff Smith will be making his mark at an upcoming show and sale at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives.

The show Work in Progress features the work of the area artist/photographer.

Smith attended the Ontario College of Art and had a one man show in Toronto of oil paintings at gallery 69 in 1973.

After graduating from the Ontario College of Art in 1975, he went on to start his own illustrating studio in airbrush work and took several national awards in Canada.

Smith went on to join large international repeat design studios in Toronto and was instrumental in transforming the studios from hand painted designs to computer aided designs (CAD) during the late 80s and on into the 90s.

His design and colour work involved him with some of the best known designers in the world like John Willman and Malcolm Cooper.

His career continued in these studios until 2008, when a new door opened up for him and he went on to explore his visions and creations which brings him to this current show at the museum.

Artwork in Work in Progress includes scenes in Dufferin, Wellington North, Grey and Perth counties.

These areas are the resource material for this visual treat by Smith.

The show consists of an assortment of creative two dimensional artwork as he illustrates memories from his past and the future.

Other pieces show alternate views. They are all part of the challenge to him to show the strong values in the environment that we have now and hopefully affect future change in a positive way.

Each of these scenes has its own breath. The original scene is the inspiration. This show is a small peak into his journey.

Also, to be held in conjunction with his art show and sale, Cliff Smith will be presenting, “The Art of Floral Photography” on Feb. 12, at 2pm.

This talk is a light and fun 45 minute PowerPoint presentation that explores various alternate ways to view a subject. It is designed for hobbyists who wish to improve their photography.

It goes through a variety of design principles with visual examples to help see other options than just centred subject matter.

Part of the talk explores such topics as the rule of thirds. Smith has offered this presentation for many horticultural clubs and has really enjoyed the time spent with each of them.

Smith’s show opens on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 2pm with a reception.

The art show and sale will remain on display in the Museum’s Lodge Gallery until March 6.

The Dufferin County Museum & Archives is situated on the North East corner of Hwy. 89 and Airport Rd.
