Mount Forest accounting firm to receive $1,825 for brickwork

MOUNT FOREST – Masonry repairs coming soon to the brick and to a limestone windowsill at 191 Main St. S. here will be funded in part by a township grant.

The grant, offered through Wellington North’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP), will cover half of the cost of the repairs, expected to total $3,650.

Council approved the $1,825 grant during a May 4 meeting.

The two-storey building was constructed for hardware merchants Alan and David Lamont in 1882 and is now owned by professional accounting firm MNP. For 70 years the historic building was home to Pfaff’s Tobacco Shop and Billiards Hall.

The work will include brick mortar repairs on the bottom five feet of the south facing wall with patch repair to damaged areas; removing and replacing the bottom few rows of brick at the sidewalk due to salt damage; sidewalk repairs; and removing and replacing a damaged Indiana limestone windowsill on the east side of the building, which was cracked and damaged by heavy equipment.

The township budgeted $35,000 for the CIP in 2026 and so far this year has approved $34,206 in grants.
