Motion to move Saugeen Mobility Transit forward

Councillor Andy Lennox wants someone in the driver’s seat to champion the Saugeen Mobility Transit [SMART] proposal for Wellington North.

At times, it seems the Saugeen Mobility Transit proposal is in slow gear in Wellington North, and Lennox wants that to change.

On May 16, he pointed to the numerous letters of support, most recently from the Mount Forest District Chamber of Commerce.

“It makes me think we need to do something to move this process forward.”

He asked for council’s indulgence allowing him to introduce a motion that night to appoint a project champion “to pursue the necessary details required for council to make an informed decision on proceeding with mobility transit similar to proposals recent outlined to council.”

He suggested that person report to council by September and include projected costs in accordance with the current policy regarding new services – including 20 year capital, funding model, funding models, alternative service delivery methods, service providers and proposed implementation schedule.

Councillor agreed with the concept.

Lennox said as an aside, he was not volunteering for the position, he just wants the proposal to move ahead.

Near the end of the meeting, councillor Dan Yake volunteered. “This is important and someone needs to follow up on this.”
