Moorefield couple wins $500,000 in OLG draw

TORONTO – A Moorefield couple is $500,000 richer after winning second prize in the OLG’s Daily Grand draw.

Michael and Lynda Boyd matched five main numbers to win $25,000 a year for life in the Feb. 27 draw.

They opted to receive a lump sum prize of $500,000.

Michael and Lynda, who have been married for 50 years, said they’ve been playing the lottery game since it started.

“I woke up and noticed I had an email from OLG saying to log into my account and see what I won,” stated Michael in an OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation) press release.

“When I saw I won $25,000 a year for life my eyes went wide and my jaw dropped.

“I went to wake up my wife right away!”

Lynda said when her husband woke her up and told her they “need to talk,” she assumed the worst.

“When he told me we won lots of money, I said ‘No we didn’t, you’ve been scammed,'” she stated.

“But when I heard him on the phone with someone from OLG I finally believed it.”

The Boyds plan to put their win toward a family vacation fund.

“Our first trip will be to the east coast, and we will have many years of adventures to look forward to,” they stated.

The winning ticket was purchased online.
