Minto schedules budget open house on March 5

A public open house to provide information and obtain community input on the municipality’s 2013 budget will be held here on March 5.

The open house will be held in the council chambers, at the town administrative building from 5 to 6:30pm.

The drop-in style event is designed to allow members of the public to speak informally to the mayor, councillors and department heads regarding the draft budget.

Currently,  the overall impact of the draft budget on a residential ratepayer would be 2.9%. This includes $6.4 million in capital work for 2013, with $4.2 million allocated for roads, sewer and water projects.

“Council and staff have been responsible preparing the draft budget,” said Mayor George Bridge.

“The open  house provides another chance for people to get information and explanation on the budget.”

Citizens wishing to brush up on the budget process can check out video recordings of the Dec.  11 and Feb.  19 budget meetings, the staff budget presentation, meeting minutes and summary budget report on the town’s website www.town.minto.on.ca.

Copies of minutes, presentations and reports can also be obtained at the office.

The budget binder used during budget deliberations can be viewed at the municipal office from 8:30am to 5pm.

Comments on the proposed budget may be submitted to the CAO/Clerk at the budget open house, or by mail, fax or email prior to final budget approval scheduled for March 19.
