Minor hockey kick starts flood machine buy

Arthur Minor Hockey has donated $1,000 to help pay for a new $75,000 Olympia ice re-surfacer purchased recently by Wellington North for the community arena.

Council decided to make the purchase after the aging  Arthur ice re-surfacer continued to break down. When council announced it would take the money from the recreation reserves to make the purchase, councillor Sherry Burke said she expected money for the equipment could be raised through advertising and donations.

The minor hockey donation was the first donation received.

Top sewer marks

Sewage and water services in Arthur and Mount Forest have received top marks from the Ministry of the Environment (MOE).

Wellington North water and sewer superintendent Barry Trood told council on Monday staff should be commended for the work it does in providing superior services in water and wastewater, considering stringent requirements and regulations by the MOE.

The ministry inspection took about two weeks to complete.

Burke, chairman of the water and sewer committee, thanked staff for its work.

“I’ve expressed my congratulations to all the staff,” she said.
