Mapleton building department reports busiest April ever
MAPLETON – Building permits are being issued here en masse – at least compared to previous years.
Mapleton Township’s building department collected $108,371 in fees last month.
The average amount collected in April the previous three years was much lower, at $62,910.
A total of 47 permits were issued last month, compared to 27 in April 2025 and 31 in April 2024.
Acting chief building official Mike Walsh told council that’s the highest-grossing April in the history of the Mapleton building department, “so we are quite thrilled with it.”
“We created seven new dwelling units and added some commercial and industrial and ... lots of construction on farms,” he said.
The biggest portion of permit fees came from agricultural permits, with the township collecting $41,467 for 11 agricultural permits last month.
It also collected $22,593 for five permits for single family dwellings and $17,931 for two industrial permits.
The rest of the permits were for additions, renovations or accessories to single family dwellings; septic systems; decks; accessory dwelling units; additions, renovations or accessories to cottages; demolitions; and a temporary tent.
According to a report presented to council on May 12, “While it would be premature to forecast annual fees, as of the end of April, revenue performance is aligned with and exceeding initial forecasted budget estimates.
“Building permit activity for the month of April has seen a created number of permit issued than in previous years, though year-to-date numbers remain aligned.
“Current revenue totals exceed both that of previous months and year-to-date figures.”
