MAPLETON – Spending here aligns with budgetary expectations thus far this year.

The Mapleton finance department provided a quarterly update to township council on Aug. 11.

The second quarter of the township’s fiscal year ended on June 30, after which the finance department put together a report on its operating performance and capital programs.

For its operating program, staff reports a year-to-date surplus of about $192,000, and the report states while “it is difficult to forecast the year-end surplus/deficit this early in the fiscal year, the operating program is expected to be within budget by the end of 2026.”

“The property tax revenues have been recognized – so that represents 50% of the annual tax levy revenues,” noted deputy treasurer Kim Keller during the meeting.

“There may be some grant funding that is not yet received, there may be expenses that have not yet been captured, and other expenses that are incurred up front, so that can create a disparity between the revues and the expenditures,” Keller added. “However, this balances out over time and we expect the operating budget to be within budget at the end of the year.”

The 2026 capital program includes $10.9 million for a range of projects, and currently carries a net surplus of $8 million.

“We are tracking quite well within the projects,” said treasurer Patrick Kelly. “There’s a lot that show zero spending as of June 30 – that’s because a lot of the capital program kind of get going in quarter three – a lot of the work – so you will see a lot more spending has occurred over the past month and a half, but that’s not captured within this report.”
