Magic show set for May 28 at CWDHS

One day in grade 7, Claude Haggerty discovered a book on magic and illusion in his school library. He learned two simple card tricks and his life would never be the same.

Then in grade 8, Haggerty discovered a book by accident in the school library that explained “How to make your dreams come true.”

At that point in his life, he was in foster care. “Having dreams come true, was something I was not accustomed to,” he said. He made a list of his goals and dreams and taped them to his school locker.

Since then, he has:

– opened West Edmonton Mall (140,000 people in attendance;

– performed twice for the Edmonton Oilers;

– performed at Air Canada Centre

– TV credits including Discovery Channel and Jay Leno;

– is one of very few magicians in the world to make an elephant disappear; and

– visited more than 7000 elementary schools and 1300 high schools to promote the importance of following dreams.

Haggerty and his magic show are coming to Centre Wellington District High School this Thursday night at 7pm.

The show will feature Grand Scale illusions.  Over 5 tonnes of illusions will be shipped to Fergus for the show.

Admission at the door is $15  or $12 with a non perishable food item for the local food bank.

Haggerty said,  “ Magic is at an all time high. Recent movies such as the Prestige and The Illusionist both did very well. And with guys like Chris Angel on television, the magic business is a better than ever.”

Haggerty thanked Claire Welsh, of Remax, Carrie Pettitt, of Mortgage Alliance, Achieve Financial, and Elaine Burton of Snap Fitness for sponsoring the show.

Local magician Cody Moynihan will also perform on  May 28.
