OTTAWA – The Standing Committee on Science and Research elected Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield as its new chair.

“I am eager to take on this role during such an exciting time in research and innovative advancements in Canada,” Longfield stated in a press release.

“Science and evidence-based data is crucial to ensure the success, challenges and opportunities ahead of us are met in Canada today.”

In his new role, Longfield will support social, environmental and industry policy development.

His new role as chair of the committee will continue to drive his work based on data and facts, the release states.

“The University of Guelph extends congratulations to Lloyd Longfield on his election as chair of the Standing Committee on Science and Research,” states University of Guelph president Charlotte Yates.

“We look forward to continuing to work with all members of the committee as they advance the important work of supporting science, research, and innovation in Canada,” Yates added.

Those sentiments were echoed by Conestoga College president John Tibbits.

“We have long appreciated (Longfield’s) support and advocacy on behalf of our community and look forward to continuing our work together to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead and build a successful future,” Tibbits said.
