Local student up for Legion’s national contest

The Royal Canadian Legion annually holds a Remembrance Day contest for students to submit essays, posters, and other work that commemorate Remembrance Day and the veterans.

Each year Wellington Heights Secondary School students in Mount Forest participate in the contest under the coordination and encouragement of history teacher Ian Turner.

At the branch level, Captain Fred Campbell Branch 134 in Mount Forest, announced there were 29 student winners from WHSS. At the Zone level, consisting of 13 Legions, there were seven winners from WHSS.   At the district level, consisting of 51 Legions, three WHSS students won in four categories.

In the provincial competition, Sarah Nicholson won first place for her Black and White Poster in the Intermediate Category. Her work is now in a competition for the Legion’s national contest.
