I am a mom of a 9 yr. old boy who plays in the centre wellington minor hockey association.

Tonight after 2.5 months of being with the team (atom 25) they have yet to lose a game. The team clicked right from the start of the season and have enjoyed playing together. I know they are playing with old friends and have formed new friends with players they didn’t know before this season.

My problem is they are pretty much 1 month away from playoffs and tournaments booked. The executives have disbanded the team. The team was told before their game to night (by their coach) that it was their last game together. Each player on that team was in tears and could not understand why they were all now being placed on separate teams. However they went out with their heads held high and played their hearts out. They ended up closing the team with a final win tonight.

All these kids want to do is go out play hockey and have fun. The league is and has taken that away from them today.

This all steams down from some complaints that the team was winning all the time. If this was a problem why wasn’t something done about it earlier In the season.

My son has also been on the other end where he played for teams that lost almost every game of the season and they never did anything about that. Why not???

How do I explain to my child that is in tears and can’t sleep that this is not his fault and to try to restore the fun and love that he had for the game.

He also had an amazing coaching staff that started with Rick Mattewson. He treated each and every child on that team the same whether they were the top players or the low players. He would coach these kids in fair play and have great practices that brought them together as friends and team mates. He is now no longer allowed to coach for house league and only allowed to coach for the select team which is better than the house league and costs the parents more for their child to play if they make the team after tryouts.

I am appalled at the league for taking these steps at this time in the season and for hurting such impressionable children as such a young age.

SHAME ON YOU Centre Wellington Minor Hockey association SHAME on YOU!!!
