Dear Editor,
East Wellington Community Services wishes to express our sincere thanks to everyone in our East Wellington community who voted for our agency, and food bank, in a recent contest held by the Ontario Independent Meat Processors (OIMP). The Facebook contest simply asked people to vote, through Facebook, for their local food bank and the 3 food banks with the most votes would win a $200 donation of fresh meat and poultry to support their clients for Easter.
When we asked our community to vote for us – the response was overwhelming! The contest ran from April 2 to April 14 and those participating by voting could vote every 24 hours. In total, our food bank received 704 votes. This total far exceeded any other food banks involved in the contest by a margin of 140 votes – not only did we win the contest and the $200 donation of meat and poultry, but we also came in FIRST place overall.
This donation is significant as it is a constant challenge to ensure our shelves are stocked in order to provide food support the more than 700 adults and 400 children in East Wellington who rely on our food bank program in order for them to have enough to eat. Food donations are always welcome and can be dropped off to our offices in Rockwood (106 Church Street)or Erin (45 Main Street,or at the Seniors Room located at Centre 2000 in Erin (14 Boland Drive).
We could not do what we do to help those who need it the most without the support from OUR community. THANK YOU to those who voted in this contest and to all the businesses, organizations and individuals who continue to donate food toward this important program that EWCS provides for so many in East Wellington. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful community that is willing to go the extra mile to help our agency and our clients. THANK YOU.
Sincerely,
The staff of East Wellington Community Services
