Re: Local MPPs outraged over latest gas plant revelations, Oct 18
Dear Editor,
As a high school student, I’m not very involved in politics. To be honest, I find politics confusing
and dull. But when it comes to money, I’m like every other student; I don’t have a lot of it.
So while reading last week’s Advertiser my attention was grabbed by the figure $1.09 billion. That is how much it’s costing to cancel two gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville. It’s a staggering amount of money and it doesn’t stop there; since the original cost for closing these two plants was a lot less. The cost they first released for cancelling the Oakville plant was $310 million; the actual cost is $675 million. That is more than double the first figure the Liberal government
released! According to the Auditor General, the cost was “significantly more than may have been
necessary.” Ontarians are furious.
We have received the expected apologies and promises from our current premier, Kathleen Wynne. The Liberals have broken records for the amount they’ve spent in the last 10 years.Every time we get more apologies and generally empty promises. I would just like to say thank
you to the Liberal party for passing on huge debts to the next generation of taxpayers.
