As a teacher at St. Mary School and a parent of a Junior Kindergarten child here, I was saddened by the angry letter about the joyful sounds of 4 year old children playing at recess. I was also very amazed at the connection made between happy little children playing and “young people getting into trouble as they enter high school.” Not very optimistic. I also wonder what this “neighbour” had in mind when she admonished teachers at St. Mary for being unable to “administer discipline.” We love our students at St. Mary School, and we are very proud of their behaviour, respect for others and the way they are such positive role models for each other and in their community. Maybe Mrs. Drimmie could join us for one of our special Play Days in June and get to know the beautiful children that she is so very lucky to have nearby.
