I think if would be wonderful, especially at this time of year if you ran a story on a couple of local “heros”. It would also assist them in continuing to help. It’s a story about a young person, a Professional in our community and our national bird, a Canadian Goose. Here’s their story. Today as I checked my Facebook page, a young teenage by the name of Rachel Lowe had taken the time and trouble in this busy season to stop, and take a picture of a Canadian Goose standing by the Grand River near the LCBO in Elora. It clearly had a broken wing. She posted the picture along with how this bird with a deformed broken wing made her want to cry. But she didn’t stop there. When I saw that picture, I asked her on her page where exactly this Canada Goose was, and she immediately responded. That’s where one of our local Professionals comes in. I called our local Veteranian The Elora Gorge Animal Hospital and told them what I knew, asking who I should call, maybe Canadian Wildlife? But they went above and beyond. Dr. Linda Franchetto and her Assistant, arranged reinforcements to help and left the Hospital to go and see if they could save our Canada Goose. We all had our fingers crossed, and they promised to let me know what happened. I’m pleased to report it’s great news. They report that it seems this Canadian Goose’s wing had been broken for a long time, as it had fused in that position while healing. Furthermore, although the whole flock has left for the winter, Her partner had stayed behind with her as she can no longer fly. They said She seemed very active, and happy, and even went into the water. Their only concern, is that this Beautiful pair get enough to eat throughout the upcoming winter. We’ve already decided to make sure that happens. As you see, it’s a wonderful local story of a Teenager who cares, a person just making a call, and a very busy local Professional all coming together in this busy season to help one of our local feathered friend and national emblem, a Canadian Goose. I have attached the Facebook page with the picture for your convenience, and Dr. Franchetto would also be willing to speak with you. I hope you find this as inspiring as I do.
