The new Hillsburgh Library…
I read your article on this latest investment in our community. And today I visited it and I have to say the library and it’s setting are spectacular! Wonderful words of praise and congrats on the county’s newest asset, that the county should be commended for this crowning achievement, public libraries are community hubs, meeting the changing needs of our community, a visionary undertaking and the accolades go on… But no where does this magnificent investment address the real needs of a community. The social needs…
One very small agency, East Wellington Community Services certainly does. But the battle is far from won. With decreasing annual funding and the exponentially growing (social) needs, EWCS is struggling to serve areas our communities (Erin, Rockwood, Guelph-Eramosa and Hillsburgh) with very little resources. For over 30 years EWCS has been there to help those in need. This library was an investment that should of included EWCS and its services.
In this day and age of “responsible” government spending, isn’t it about time agencies like EWCS get recognized for the valuable work their staff and their “volunteers”, without whom we’d be dead in the water, do to help those in need? I certainly think so.
There’s still time to make this “crowning achievement”, the “crown jewel” of our communities… who is with me?
