Let”™s celebrate seniors in Centre Wellington

Every June Ontario celebrates Seniors’ Month and this year is no exception in Centre Wellington.  

2017 marks the 33rd anniversary and the Victoria Park Seniors Centre will use this opportunity to thank and celebrate all of the wonderful seniors’ in CW.  

There will be a number of events taking place at the Centre that are open to all in our community.

 “Our mandate is to support active, healthy lifestyles for older adults through an extensive range of social, health, recreational and educational activities and programs” said Kathryn Morgan, Supervisor of Senior Services.

“Seniors’ month gives us the opportunity to stop and thank all of our seniors in Centre Wellington who truly make amazing contributions in our centre and our community.”

 Here are a few of the great things happening.  

Musical Entertainment: New Horizons Band

Friday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m.

Special musical performance by the New Horizons Band of Guelph. Enjoy the sounds of a 30-piece brass and woodwind band with refreshments afterwards. The New Horizons Music Program provides an entry point to music for adults who have little or no musical experience. Donations are welcome at the door.

VPSC’s 25th Anniversary & Seniors’ Month Celebration

Monday, June 5 at 1:30 p.m.

This year is Victoria Park Seniors Centre’s 25th Anniversary. Since June officially Seniors’ Month in Canada it provides an opportunity for a double celebration with a memorable afternoon of entertainment by the Centre’s talented choir and ukulele band, The Melody Makers.

The event includes celebration cake and ice cream. All are welcome. Donations are welcome at the door.

Spring Swing

Saturday, June 10 from 7 – 11 p.m.

Dance to great live music performed by The Greytones at the Elora Legion. All welcome. Dance the night away to the music of Elvis, Roy Orbinson, Ricky Nelson, Garth Brooks, Patsty Cline and other country and pop artists from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s. Cash bar. Snacks available. All proceeds go to Victoria Park Seniors Centre. Contact the Seniors Centre for tickets 519.846.9691 x204. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $10.

New members’ talk and tour

Monday, June 12 at 10 a.m.

Discover new activities and opportunities at Victoria Park Seniors Centre to make the most of your retirement years. Meet other new members, volunteers and staff. Take a tour, enjoy refreshments and learn about programs and services available to you. Or contact the Centre to schedule a tour anytime.

VPSC’s 25th Anniversary Memory Lunch

Wednesday, June 14 at 12 p.m.  Cost is $5 for everyone

We will be celebrating 25 years of homemade lunches at the Centre with a walk down memory lane, and a menu that pays tribute to the original homemade lunches offered at the Centre with the 1992 price! All are welcome.

 Poker Walk

Monday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Join us for an enjoyable morning that promotes fun, physical activity. Walking two kilometers on a pre-determined route led by our fitness instructor. Prizes! Walking poles available. Everyone can participate, even if you cannot go on the walk. This event is free of charge. Enjoy refreshments after the walk.

Seniors Month $5 BBQ Lunch

Wednesday, June 21 at 12 p.m.

Celebrate Seniors Month by joining us for a delicious BBQ lunch. Thanks to Heritage River Retirement Residence for subsidizing the cost of the lunch. All welcome. $5 for everyone

Strawberry Social

Tuesday, June 27 at 2 p.m.

Join in a fun afternoon of toe-tapping music with the Centre’s talented guitar band: The Country Classics. Enjoy fresh Ontario strawberries with shortcake and ice cream after the show. Note early bird ticket deadline: $6 by June 16 or $7 after June 16.

Peach Social

Saturday, August 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us for our 15th Annual Peach Social fundraiser and have a peach of a day! Frozen homemade peach pies for sale. Stay for lunch, enjoy fresh baked peach pie or peach shortcake, and browse the tables of crafts handcrafted by our Craft and Quilting Group, home baking and large sized fresh Niagara peaches for sale by the basket.
