Legion celebrates 70 years of memories

The Harriston Legion invites the public to join the 70th anniversary of the Harriston Branch 296 of the Royal Canadian Legion and veterans in the community on June 6.

The event starts with a 2pm parade to the cenotaph led by the Mount Forest Cameron Highlanders Pipe Band.

The veterans will be transported in vintage WWII vehicles.

All other Legion members, the Minto Fire Department and Norwell Army Cadets will follow the veterans in the parade.

At 2:45pm, there will be a dedication service of the new auditorium doors donated by the Grosz, in memory of Walter and Myrtle Grosz. Following the dedication, the Legion will host a wine and cheese event in the Maple Leaf Room.

The theme is “a walk down memory lane,” as 70 years of history will be on display.

The evening gala begins with a cocktail party and entertainment in the upper auditorium, at 5:30pm, with dinner beginning at 6:30pm.
