International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program

An International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program is offered at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Guelph.

The student-centred program nurtures and develops students from three to 12 years-old as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.

The curriculum framework is inquiry based, builds conceptual learning, and promotes critical thinking.

In this program, students begin studying French in kindergarten.

It is recognized as an example of best educational practice globally, responding to the challenges and opportunities facing young students in our rapidly changing world.

Limited space is available, and registrations must be completed by February 3 to be considered for this program.

Sacred Heart Catholic School is the only local public provider of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and the second in Ontario.

Required documents

Both boards require parents and guardians to provide the following documentation to register:

– proof of age (birth certificate, birth registration form, baptismal certificate, Canadian citizenship, permanent resident card, or passport);

– proof of address (utility, cable, internet or tax bill,  or purchase or lease agreement); and

– verification of date of arrival/immigration documents (if child was not born in Canada)

Immunization Records do not need to be shared with school boards, but submitted directly to Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health.

The WCDSB also requires the child or parent’s baptismal certificate for proof of Catholicism.

Families who are not Catholic, but are interested in having their child receive a faith-based education with the WCDSB should contact their local elementary school principal for more information or e-mail generalinquiries@wellingtoncdsb.ca.
