Jurgen Petrenko to speak at arts council lecture series

The Elora Arts Council is offering a winter series of three art lectures. The series, one Sunday afternoon per month from January to March will be held in local library community rooms, both comfortable, intimate spaces.

Guests for the 2016 talks will focus on their related field in the arts including music, visual art and architecture.  The guest speakers are all internationally recognized professionals who live in Centre Wellington. They often speak or lecture elsewhere, but have seldom been heard here.

Guest speakers include:

– Jurgen Petrenko and Reminiscences of a Performing Artist on Jan. 24;    

– John Kissick and Visual Abstraction on Feb. 21; and

– Ken Thompson and Visual Renewal of Space in Japan on  March 13.

Petrenko is a well-recognized and respected producer of music programs with CBC radio, including Saturday Afternoon at the Opera. He is co-founder and artistic director of the 100-voice Toronto Classical Choir and he has conducted dozens of major choral and orchestral works. He teaches oratorio performance at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Petrenko is the organist of St. John’s Anglican Church in Elora and has been general manager of the Elora Festival.

He will lecture on Jan. 24 at 2pm in the Elora Library, lower level.    

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Seating is limited to 50.
