International Water Day promoted at the local level in Minto

March 22 was World Water Day 2010 and was dedicated to water quality, reflecting its importance alongside quantity of the resource in water management.

In 1993, that date was declared International World Water Day by the United Nations General Assembly in an effort to bring attention to issues facing water around the world.

This Monday and every day, Minto asked residents to reflect on the importance of water in their lives, especially each time they turn on the taps.

Mayor David Anderson advised that “water is important in so many ways to the residents of Minto including for our own personal use, to water our livestock, to keep plants growing, in the running of our factories and other uses. Its sustainability is vital to our personal well-being, environment and economy.”

Through Minto’s drinking water quality management system team, the town is committed to supplying a consistent and safe drinking water supply which meets or exceeds all regulatory standards.

This is done through evaluations, training, communication, workplace safety and response measures.

By specifically raising the profile of water quality, residents can encourage governments, organizations, communities and individuals around the world to actively engage in proactively addressing water quality in pollution prevention, clean up and restoration.
