Insights Juried Art Exhibition returns to Wellington County museum

Insights is returning to the Wellington County Museum and Archives this summer.

Displaying a wide range of original art, this annual juried show is organized and sponsored by the Elora Arts Council Insights committee and runs from June 15 to Sept. 4.

“Fibre art, photography, paintings, and three-dimensional works are all highlighted, showcasing the creativity of emerging and well-established artists in the County,” said curator Susan Dunlop in a press release.

“Insights is always a popular exhibit because the quality and variety of artwork is exceptional. In its 37th year, this exhibit is one of the largest and longest-running art exhibitions in Ontario.”

Interested artists living in the counties of Wellington, Dufferin, Grey, Huron and Perth, and the City of Guelph at welcome to make submissions, organizaers state.

The exhibition accepts work in five categories: painting, photography, works on paper, fibre and material arts and 3-dimensional arts.

Jurying will be of the actual work itself, not a digitally submitted image.

Submissions must be delivered to the Wellington County Museum and Archives on June 3 between 10am and 4pm or June 4 between 1:30 and 4pm.

Artists will be notified of the jury’s decision on June 9.

The public is invited to join the opening reception on June 15 from 7 to 9pm at the museum. The awards presentation begins at 8pm.

As an added feature, the Insights committee has organized a Walk with the Jurors for June 19 from 1:30 to 3pm.

Jurors Susan Dobson, Renann Isaacs and Paul Morin will share how their ideas and sensibilities shaped the exhibit. Admission is $5.

Dobson is an associate professor, photography department head, and master of fine arts program coordinator at the University of Guelph. Her photographs have been exhibited across Canada, the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, China, Germany, Spain, and Mexico.

Renann Isaacs Contemporary Art Gallery is in downtown Guelph and has become a destination for individuals and groups who appreciate and collect fine art. Isaacs specializes in a variety of media including paintings, works on paper, jewelry, metal sculpture and glass by some of Canada’s nationally and internationally recognized artists.

Morin’s artwork has been exhibited in museums across Canada. His work has appeared in Newsweek, Macleans and in the Society of Illustrators annuals. He has won over 25 national and international awards including Canada’s prestigious Governor General’s Award.

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is on Wellington Road 18 between Fergus and Elora.
