Hydro One provides funds for Alma playground

Hydro One customer operations manager Ron Matthews is impressed with the work being done to develop Wallace Cumming Park in Alma.

Matthews, at the park on Aug. 7 to present a $5,000 cheque towards the cost of the new playground equipment, said he has attended a number of similar events over the years and it’s uncommon to see a brand new park developed.

He told those in attendance at the brief ceremony he is pleased to represent Hydro One, which takes great pleasure in providing such donations through its PowerPlay grant program. Matthews also said it was great to see several children using the equipment that very morning.

Mapleton Mayor John Green thanked Hydro One for its donation, as well as the Alma Community Recreation  Association (ACRA) for its “foresight” in making the application for the funding.

“Hopefully it will be used for many, many years,” Green said of the playground equipment. “I know the people of Alma will enjoy it and it will make the community a better place to live.”

ACRA member Art Freeman noted the new equipment is part of phase one of the development plans for the park. He said the committee has put a lot of time and effort into the plans, and seeing the new playground makes it all worthwhile.

ACRA, the township, Hydro One and the Optimist Club of Alma all contributed to the new playground.
