Hillsburgh man wins RAV4 from Tim Hortons

Rolling up the rim now has more meaning for Alex Puplickhuizen of Hillsburgh.

By simply rolling up the rim of his Tim Hortons cup, Puplickhuizen became the owner of an all-new 2013 Toyota RAV4, a grand prize in this year’s Roll up the Rim to Win contest at Tim Hortons.

“Having a grand prize winner at our restaurant is exciting for our guests, team members and the community,” said Lori and Andrew Paterson, Tim Hortons restaurant owners in Erin.

“Our guests are happy when they win a donut or a coffee, so you can imagine how thrilling it is when someone rolls up the rim and realizes they’ve won a new vehicle.”

Lori Paterson added the discovery of a local winner created a lot of excitement in the store as well.

“Staff were really interested when the actual cup was sold to know who made the coffee and handed it out the window – or across the counter.”

The cup was sold very early on in the contest – about the third day in, she said.

“The winner was in that evening.”

Even so, it’s taken a while to be able to hand over the keys.

Typically once the winner information is sent, the tab is validated to ensure it is an original winner.

The winner gets to choose which dealership to work with.

Then work continues through the marketing department and Toyota. The decision in this case was to work with Georgetown Toyota.

“There’s still more cars to be won … which haven’t been claimed,” Paterson added.

For Puplickhuizen, his double-double was a winner-winner.

Puplickhuizen was on his way to work in downtown Toronto when he rolled up the rim and found out he’d won.

“I did a triple take, and looked at my cup a few times,” he said with a laugh.
