HICKMAN, Gordon

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon Hickman—a devoted husband, father, brother, proud grandfather, and a truly unforgettable man. Gord was the beloved husband of Carol Hickman, with whom he shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, building a life full of love, partnership, and countless memories. He was a proud and loving father to Gerry Hickman (Lori), Bradley Hickman (Shannon), and Denise Zammit (Brian). He was also a cherished and loving Pa to the best grandchildren in the world—Emma, Josh, Abby, Jake, Ava, Ben, and Victoria. His grandchildren were the center of his world. Gord didn’t just love them—he lit up around them, creating laughter, stories, and moments they will carry with them forever. Born in England, Gord came to Canada at just six months old with his mother, a proud war bride. From those early beginnings, he built a life defined by determination, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the people around him. He spent most of his career as a gravel truck driver in the GTA, where he became widely known as “Left Lane Gordie.” But Gord was far more than his work—he was a man of energy, curiosity, and passion. He had a lifelong love of aviation and a deep appreciation for anything that moved with horsepower and purpose. That passion carried over into his love of cars, where he found joy in building, working on, and proudly showcasing them at car shows. For Gord, it was never just about the machines—it was about the people, the conversations, and the shared excitement. Gord embraced life fully. Whether it was winters spent as a snowbird in Florida, long days in the garage, road trips, or simply sitting with family, everything became an adventure. He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into stories—stories filled with humour, personality, and heart. He loved to socialize, connect, and make people feel welcome, leaving a lasting impression as a caring, fun-loving, and loyal friend. Above all, Gord treasured time with his family. His life was not measured just in years, but in the memories, he created the laughter he shared, and the way he made others feel. Gord truly made the most of his “dash”—living with heart, purpose, and a sense of adventure that touched everyone who knew him. He is survived by his sister Lorie Fowler (Dave) and will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Edith Hickman, and his sister Linda-May Hickman. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his warmth, his spirit, and the incredible life he built with those he loved. Our family would like to express their deepest thanks to the incredible staff at Hospice Wellington for their kindness, compassion, and care. In Gord’s memory, donations to Hospice Wellington would be a meaningful way to honor his life. Arrangements entrusted to the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com. A tree will be planted in memory of Gordon L. Hickman in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
