Here comes the bus

Weekend shuttle bus resumes May 20

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The downtown shuttle bus program here is returning for the summer.

Every weekend this summer, a shuttle bus will transport visitors and residents to downtown Elora and Fergus.

The shuttle bus allows visitors to park in areas outside of the downtown cores, and be transported, without cost to the rider, to specific areas of the township.

The program commences on May 20 and ends Sept. 4.

The shuttle bus will operate every Saturday and Sunday – and Monday during long weekends.

A tourism ambassador will be on board every single ride this year to provide support to visitors and residents.

Another new feature this year is the rollout of the “Talent on Board” program. It will feature local musicians with a focus on promoting emerging young talent.

With those new additions, the hope is to create a memorable experience and set Elora and Fergus apart from other destinations, a press release states.

“The shuttle program is a great way to alleviate the parking constraints in the downtown areas of Elora and Fergus during the busy tourist season,” Mayor Shawn Watters said.

“Not only does this program reduce our carbon footprint … it also acts on the goals of public transit, which many Centre Wellington residents have asked for.

“I look forward to seeing tourists and residents take advantage of this free shuttle in the coming months,” Watters added.

 The bus operates from 11am to 6pm on regular weekends.

The shuttle leaves the Grand River Raceway every hour, on the hour, beginning at 11am.

The last bus will departs at 5pm, stopping at all locations, and returns to the raceway by 6pm.

The Grand River Raceway is located at 7445 Wellington Road 21, Elora.

The other stops include:

– MacDonald Square, Elora;

– Elora Centre for the Arts / Bissel Park, Elora;

– Wellington County Museum;

– Fergus Marketplace;

– St. Andrew St. West Mall, Fergus; and

There is free parking at the raceway and also at some of the other stops, like the museum and St. Andrew St. W. mall.
