Haunted Maze offers Halloween fun in support of Drayton Youth Centre

Mapleton Organic, in partnership with the Drayton Youth Centre, will host a Haunted Maze this coming weekend.

Jack-o’-lanterns light the two-acre cedar hedge maze illuminating the secret way to the ghostly pirate ship where stories of distant seas will be told.

This event is aimed at families with children ranging from two to 10 years of age. Everyone is invited to wear their costumes and huddle around the fire for a cup of hot cider. The farm store will be open and serving coffee, hot chocolate, baked goods and ice cream – including Mapleton’s popular pumpkin flavour.

This event is a fundraiser for The Drayton Youth Centre, with 50 per cent of admissions donated to this community organization.

The maze is open Oct. 27 and Oct. 28 from 6 – 8pm at Mapleton’s Organic Dairy Farm, 8548 Wellington Road 7. Cost is $10 per person or $20 per family.

Mapleton’s Organic Dairy is a family owned and operated farm. Owners open the farm to the public to visit the wide variety of animals, engage in a variety of activities and participate in special events. They also host family and group barbecues and offer farm tours.

Drayton Youth Centre

In 1995, a number of people had a vision to start a drop-in centre in Drayton.  A board was established and it met regularly. Plans were discussed and implemented.

The new centre officially opened in September of 1999 in the basement of the Drayton Pentecostal Tabernacle. As more and more youth attended the centre, it became clear that the place was too small. After months of hard work, with many dedicated volunteers and prayer, the present location was found, renovated, and opened on April 6, 2001.

Since then, the board was encouraged to hire a youth director to get youths involved in activities. Karen Timmerman was hired on March 1, 2002, but due to her other commitments, on March 1, 2003, Laurie Sipes was hired to take over as youth director.

The support of the community, which includes businesses, churches, ladies’ groups and individuals, has been tremendous and is very much appreciated.  The centre is located at 21 Wellington Street South.
