Harriston roundabout could be delayed

If a proposed roundabout south of Harriston can’t be completed in plenty of time before the 2016 International Plowing Match this fall, the project will be deferred, Minto Mayor George Bridge told council March 15.

“Is there a drop dead date?” asked councillor Mary Lou Colwell.

“I was told by the county if they can’t have it done by the middle or end of June they won’t start it,” said Bridge, who is also the county warden.

“They wouldn’t take a chance the plowing match will be affected.”

Bridge noted the project can’t get underway until Hydro One moves a hydro pole near the intersection of Wellington Road 109 and White’s Road, where the roundabout is to be built.

“Everybody else is done,” noted deputy mayor Ron Faulkner, chair of the 2016 IPM, which will be held on the farm of Anne and Earl Schneider in September.

Bridge noted there won’t be any disruption in traffic until the last two weeks of roundabout construction, when the centre section of the structure will be built.

“Then there’ll be some flagging and stuff,” Bridge told council.
