Guelph-Eramosa sells unopened road allowances

Guelph-Eramosa council has completed four different transactions when selling four different unopened road allowances to residents in Everton.

“We are now at a point where the surveying has been complete, a closing date has been established for the road allowances and the township solicitor is working with staff and purchasing parties to complete these transactions,” said deputy clerk Amanda Knight at the June 25 council meeting.

“Once the transactions are complete, the township will proceed with registering the conveyance bylaw on title.”

The process began in 2016 when Don and Marlene Bard told the township they’d like to buy adjacent unopened municipal road allowances in the hamlet. The roads were meant to be part of a subdivision that has been “un-deemed” and will never be built Knight explained.

“Their plan was to consolidate the four parcels with the road allowance to create one lot,” Knight said.

“Since doing that it’s also been brought to [our] attention that there were other portions of road allowances, which the municipality had also deemed surplus and passed resolutions authorizing the sale and conveyance of these particular road allowances.”

In total, the road allowances will bring $38,292 to the township, which will go into road reserves in the 2018 budget.

The road sales include:

– Don and Marlene Bard: a portion of the road allowances between lots 10 and 11, Concession 7, Evert’s Portion; a portion of the road allowance called Irena Street, Evert’s Portion; and a portion of the road allowance known as William Street Evert’s Portion;

– Angela and Steve Lillie: a 33 feet by 219 feet portion of the road allowance known as Irena Street, Evert’s Portion;

– Estate of Robert Johnston: a 33 feet by 219 feet portion of the road allowance known as Irena Street, Evert’s Portion; and

– Walter and Elizabeth: a 20 feet by 165 feet portion of the road allowances between lots 10 and 11 Evert’s Portion.
