#GetInTouchForHutch committee offering unique lacrosse camp

Local Junior A, B and C lacrosse players will volunteer their time for a unique “LAX Out Mental Health” camp on June 14.

The event, organized by the #GetInTouchForHutch committee in partnership with the junior lacrosse players, will include two hours of on-floor lacrosse instruction and skill development, followed by a 60-minute mental health awareness discussion with Myrna Hutchison, mother of Steve Hutchison, who took his own life last year.

Running from 10am to 1pm on June 14 at the Elora arena, the event is open to male and female players from novice to midget.

The event also includes a barbecue (open to the public) and a chance to meet and spend time with the junior lacrosse players volunteering at the camp.

The cost for the camp is $30 per player, which includes  the sessions, barbecue and a drink, a “Family Is Forever” memorial bracelet, and a “SH44” (Hutchison’s initials and jersey number) engraved ball.

All proceeds from the LAX Out Mental Health event will go to the #GetInTouchForHutch foundation and will be combined with the funds raised at the second annual #GetInTouchForHutch race on June 28.

All money raised at both events is donated to various mental health initiatives, including WesForYouth and The Canadian Mental Health Association.

Those interested in the June 14 camp can sign up at the Elora arena or by emailing organizer Maddi Heseltine at maddiheseltine@hotmail.com (participants should pay the day of the event). For more information email Heseltine or call 519-994-4394.
