Get ready for the season; GRCA summer camps are coming soon

The Grand River Conservation Authority has increased the variety of summer camps it is offering this year to encourage kids to keep learning and making friends in the great outdoors all summer.

“We’re hoping kids will stay with us for a few weeks this summer by trying some different camps. Every week is different and there are many more camping opportunities than we’ve ever had before,” said Tracey Ryan, manager of environmental education and restoration at the GRCA.

A few camps are already sold out, but there are still others available in Guelph Lake, Rockwood and Belwood Lake.

Parents and kids can look through the description of each camp before making a selections.

Registration is available online at www.grandriver.eventbrite.com.

Unique Rockwood opportunities Kids may enjoy “learning about things with wings” (butterflies, bats and birds), and eco-adventures.

They don hard hats and carry flashlights into a small, safe cave system.

By the time they emerge above ground, they are eager spelunkers.  Students in French immersion may want to try the French summer camp.

Fishing Camp at Belwood Aspiring young anglers can learn everything they need to about fishing at Belwood Lake.

There is a general fishing camp for 8- to 12-year-olds and a fly fishing camp for 10 to 14 year-olds the following week.

During the camps, kids will learn basic fishing skills like casting, knot tying and fish identification, or they will focus on the skill of fly fishing that will keep them outside and enjoying nature for a lifetime. Belwood is one of Ontario’s premier fishing spots.
