On June 18, at about 12:58pm, Wellington County OPP received a call from a contractor that was performing work behind the Rockwood library.

Damage was caused to a natural gas line by the workers and Union Gas quickly responded to the scene to shut down the gas line.

A road closure occurred on Main Street North, Rockwood from Jackson Street to the south Wellington County OPP Operations Centre for approximately 15 minutes.

OPP officers, along with members of the Guelph-Eramosa Fire Department, knocked on the doors of seven homes to evacuate residents for safety reasons.

No one was injured in the incident and the library reopened the next day.
