Gallery Concert Series back for 26th season

On Oct. 25 at 2pm, the enduring and affordable Gallery Concert Series resumes for a 26th season.

These are live music concerts organized by the not-for-profit Gallery Music Group, an associate of the Elora Arts Council, in conjunction with the Wellington County Museum and Archives. Programs and dates for the six concerts of the season can be seen on the EAC website www.artscouncil.elora.on.ca.

The 2015-2016 concert season opens at the exhibition hall of the museum on Oct. 25 in a warm and intimate atmosphere where the performer interacts with the audience, reminiscent of the old “Salon”. For lovers of the music of the past, this afternoon of piano renditions will be a melodic delight. Brad Halls will present  The Music of James Van Heusen, one of his favourite composers, richly interpreted on the Yamaha grand piano.

As a composer  Van Heusen worked primarily in Hollywood (with occasional excursions – largely unsuccessful – to Broadway). He became the “go-to” songwriter for the two greatest vocalists of the 20th century, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, winning  four Academy Awards for his compositions.

Brad Halls’ piano concerts centre around the Great American Song Book. A native of Fergus, he retired from practicing law to continue a career playing the music he loves.  Warmly welcomed by a previous audience in 2012, Halls returns to the Gallery Concert stage with familiar songs such as  Moonlight Becomes You, But Beautiful, Here’s That Rainy Day,  Call Me Irresponsible, Swinging’ on a Star and many more.

The audience are invited to stay after the show for coffee with the artist and friends. The affordable tickets are available at the door and include access to all exhibits of the county museum.
