Free workshops from East Wellington Family Health Team

The East Wellington Family Health Team is offering free workshops in December.

The Highs and Lows of Diabetes, Dec. 1, noon to 1pm. This workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning management skills for type 2 diabetes. In this class, risk factors with be discussed and myths and facts addressed. Paricipants will also learn to understand blood work and receive practical suggestions to help improve blood sugar through lifestyle changes like healthy eating and exercise. This session is online.

Caregiver Coffee Hour, Dec. 5, 6:30 to 7:30pm. This is a monthly drop-in group  for anyone who is or will be a caregiver. Participants will share resources, meet other caregivers and share stories over refreshments and snacks. There is no registration for this group and no cost to attend. Meetings are held on the first Monday of every month. The session is hosted by Hospice Wellington. Because the session is in person, masks must be worn.

Heart Health, Dec. 6, noon to 1pm. This workshop is for anyone interested in learning more about heart healthy eating and lifestyle strategies to help prevent or manage conditions like high cholesterol and high blood pressure. It will include a review of heart disease risk factors, discussion on the meaning of cholesterol numbers and practical suggestions for improving heart health. Anyone can benefit from this informative workshop. This session is online.

Anxiety – Dial it Down! Dec. 7, 7 to 8pm. In this one-session workshop, participants will learn practical strategies to reverse anxious sensations in the head, chest and body, how to influence the factors that bring on anxiety and panic attacks, and how biofeedback may be useful. Sessions are presented and facilitated by Kathy Somers, University of Guelph’s Stress Management and High Performance Clinic. This session is online.

Understanding Pre-diabetes, Dec. 8, 4 to 5pm. Sugars  a touch high? Reduce risk of developing diabetes through healthier eating and active living. Learn about risk factors and why pre-diabetes is a concern, the basics of healthy eating and activity, and tips on planning health habit changes. The session is offered online.
