Mapleton firefighters, with assistance from departments in Palmerston and Listowel, managed to control a fire at a feed mill here on Monday night.

Mapleton Fire Chief Rick Richardson said Moorefield and Drayton firefighters responded to a call to the Spectum Feed mill on Booth Street around 8pm on Sept. 28. A total of 63 firefighters, with four tankers plus the Listowel aerial truck reported to the scene.

Richardson said the cause of the fire was an equipment malfunction. He said the fire was contained to the dryer area and was under control by 2am. Firefighters remained on the scene until 7am on Sept. 29 to watch for flare ups.

No one was injured and no damage estimate is available.

Spectrum officials expressed appreciation for the work of area firefighters and anticipate having the operation up and running again within two weeks.

Richardson expressed appreciation for the help from Minto and North Perth fire departments.
