Fitting tribute

Flags were lowered last week in Guelph-Eramosa and at the County of Wellington Administration Centre to mark the passing of Les Foote, a former councillor, distinguished reeve and past warden of Wellington County.

The tribute was fitting and much deserved.

As warden in 1997, his term dealt with an amalgamation that saw Wellington’s 21 municipal governments reduced to seven.

Through Foote’s leadership, the process was far less parochial then seen in other jurisdictions.

His friendly ways and soft-spoken manner made a stressful time easier on all concerned.

In 1998 Les Foote was chairman of the local transition board, and skillfully steered the merger of Guelph and Eramosa Townships into the entity it is today.

Soon after the closure of the Marden school, Les was instrumental on the township building committee in the construction of a community room and adjoining county library branch.

His dedication to Guelph-Eramosa and the county will long be remembered by family and friends.
