Fire department enhancement

The idea of a utility vehicle for the Mount Forest Fire Department has popped up once more.

Although discussed previously at council, the letter from Dale Small, president of the Mount Forest Lions Club was brought back Oct. 18, as fire committee chairman John Matusinec was at the meeting.

Matusinec had been absent from the meeting when the idea was originally discussed.

The Mount Forest Lions stated it planned to fundraise for a $20,000 multipurpose utility vehicle for the Mount Forest Fire Department. – with donations of $5,000 per year over four years.

The group asked that the vehicle also have a plaque that the vehicle was in memory of Jack Johnson, along with the Lions Club logo.

“Jack was a tremendous person, Lion, and well-known citizen of Mount Forest and the club felt this would be good way to remember him.”

In the letter directed to Mount Forest Fire Chief Ron MacEachern, Small also wrote “The Mount Forest Lions Club is proud of our past history with the Mount Forest Fire Department and places a high degree of importance in supporting the good work that you and your team provide to our community. We thank you for providing us with the opportunity to help serve the community in this way.”

Matusinec said the Mount Forest Lions Club offered to buy a specialized ATV.

“It’s a very generous offer, and a great enhancement to the department.”

The request they had was for council to finance it until the donations come through.

“I think we’d be crazy not to go for it. You can’t look a gift horse in the mouth.” Matusinec said.

Council already agreed with the concept of the proposal and to place in within the 2011 budget discussions.

Treasurer John Jeffrey said the item was received as information at the previous meeting to be forwarded to the budget discussions.
