Fire chief, fire prevention officer resign; town begins replacement search

For the second time in 18 months, town staff will begin the search for a new fire chief.

Current chief Steve Goode, who replaced long-time chief John McDougall last spring, announced his resignation earlier this month.

However, Town Manager Lisa Hass said on Monday night the resignation is not effective until Nov. 20 and Goode has promised not to “leave [the town] high and dry” and said he would help find his replacement.

“I thought Steve was the perfect candidate going in,” said Mayor Rod Finnie.

But he and councillor Barb Tocher said they understand Goode’s decision, considering the time required to fulfill the duties of fire chief as well as the other things going on Goode’s life.

Goode, who resigned for “personal reasons,” is still a full-time fire fighter in Cambridge and his wife just recently had a baby.

Goode, once a volunteer firefighter in Puslinch, did not return a phone call from the Wellington Advertiser.

Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kevin Gallant also recently announced his resignation to pursue an opportunity with another department.
