Fergus man faces weapon charges after traffic stop

FERGUS – A Fergus man has been charged after police found a prohibited weapon in a vehicle following a traffic stop here on Wednesday.

Wellington County OPP officials say an officer pulled over a black sedan in Fergus for an alleged driving violation on Feb. 8.

Randy Cormier, 38, of Fergus, was charged with:

  • driving while suspended;
  • being a novice driver with a blood-alcohol level above zero;
  • unauthorized possession of a weapon; and
  • five counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

OPP spokesperson Jacob Unger explained the weapon was “a noxious substance which [is] … considered a prohibited weapon.”

He added the five possession charges “deal with the fact that he is on prohibition” and can’t possess that weapon.
