Fergus Horticultural Society Plant Sale on May 14 (2019) at Sportsplex

Finally, some warm weather to get out in the garden and get those hands dirty.

Another sign that spring has surely arrived is the annual plant sale held by the Fergus Horticultural Society on May 14, 2019 from 8 to 11am. The sale will take place next to the Centre Wellington Communtiy Sportsplex on Belsyde Avenue.

Remember the early bird not only catches the worm but also chooses the best selection, as some species are very limited in number.

The majority of the plants are surplus from the society’s 35 town gardens and from members’ individual collections.

Seasoned gardeners understand that perennials must be divided every three or four years to ensure continued performance.

The beauty of these selected perennials is they are conditioned to suit our weather.

This popular sale is a bargain hunter’s bonanza. Many gardeners line up early to get the best selection at bargain prices.

Last year peonies and variegated hostas were snapped up within the first few minutes.

Many plants are large specimens. As in other years, the collection will have rare, old favourities, newer introductions, herbs, ground covers and shade dwellers.

Society members are always on hand to discuss gardening questions and to make suggestions for a specific garden.

The society will also have memberships available at the sale which entitle shoppers to a 10 per cent discount.

Sale proceeds go directly to support garden projects in the community.
