Fergus Fall Fair unveils new logo, board

The Fergus Agricultural Society unveiled a new logo and announced a new slate of 21 volunteer board members at the annual meeting held here on Jan. 30.

The logo was introduced within the context of improving the organization’s marketing strategy and will be used to promote the annual Fergus Fall Fair.

“We want to thank the team of volunteers who host the fair and we look forward to the continued support of the community this coming year – we are stronger when we work together,” says John Worton, who ended his term as president at the meeting. Worton has served as president since 2013.

Henry Vervoort was elected as the new president of the Fergus Agricultural Society and will lead the board for the next two years. Vervoort was previously president of the board in 2007 and 2008 and is a long-time volunteer on the dairy cattle show and field crop committees.

In addition to Worton as past president and Vervoort as president, the society announced the new executive as Debbie Veldhuizen, first vice president, Andrew Taylor, second vice president, Wendy Whittaker, secretary and Paul Knierim, treasurer.

Joan McBurney, Jennifer Craig, Rebecca Hannam, Denise Kannkainen, Mary Fraser, Joanne Buell, Marney Swanston, Sharon Austin, Tayler Black, Jenny Vervoort, Paul Rappolt and Cathy Wierstra were elected to serve as the board’s directors. Three junior director positions, open to youth between the ages of 17 and 23, were filled by Krista Fraser, Ruth Robertshaw and Jessie Swanston.

The society is hosting a fundraiser dance featuring the Bill Beattie Band on April 11 at 8pm at the Elora Legion. The 179th annual Fergus Fall Fair, themed “Family Ties and Homemade Pies”, will be held on Sept. 18 to 20 at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
