Fergus BIA sends film funds to Goderich downtown area

The local Business Improvement Area here is making a contribution to assist downtown Goderich in its recovery following the recent tornado.

The Fergus BIA is donating money it recently received from the Salem Falls film production company to the Goderich BIA.

“As a downtown of similar size, also blessed with irreplaceable historic buildings, we felt a connection to downtown Goderich’s plight,” said Fergus BIA chairman Jackie Fraser.  “We wanted to help in some small way.”

Fergus BIA treasurer, George Mochrie added, “We often take the beauty of our historic buildings within our small downtowns for granted, until something horrific like the Goderich tornado occurs. This gesture says we are thinking of them in this difficult time.”

The local BIA received a cheque for $1,000 from the company in town recently to film Salem Falls, a Lifetime television movie based on the Jodi Picoult book of the same name.

It will be redirected to the Goderich BIA.

“We wish downtown Goderich a swift and successful recovery from this disaster,” added Fraser.  “I am sure there are many who will rally around their downtown business community and ensure that it returns to its pre-tornado glory.”

Anyone can make a contribution at the coming Downtown Fergus Antique and Classic Car Show on Sept 9. Contributions will also be accepted at Cherry Hill Entertainment or Fraberts Fresh Food in the Fergus Marketplace on the River.
