Family and Children’s Services continues to work for community

GUELPH – Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County (FCSGW) is reminding the community the agency remains open to provide services to local children, youth and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

FCSGW staff are available to help any family struggling to manage the challenges they are facing as a result of this pandemic, the agency states in an April 13 press release.

Parents are encouraged to call FCSGW if they require parenting support, access to resources, or assistance in managing during this time.

As well, community members can helping to ensure the safety and well-being of children and youth, the agency notes.

With schools, daycares, and non-essential workplaces closed children “can become invisible” and support from the community is needed.

“A simple phone call or virtual check-in to ensure that families and children are fully cared for and supported can make a big difference,” officials state.

Anyone who knows of a child, youth, or family in need of help or support, or who has concerns about the safety or well-being of a child or youth under 18, is urged to call FCSGW at 519-824-2410 or 1-800-265-8300 24/7.

“Even though most of our staff are working from home,” says executive director Sheila Markle, “they are continuing to reach out to the families we work with and are following up on calls from the community.”

Staff are connecting with families by phone or secure virtual platforms, and are following recommended procedures to reduce the risk of spreading the virus if they need to meet with children and families face to face.”

The agency’s office at 275 Eramosa continues to be open with a small number of staff onsite to offer support.
