Erin briefs: Data loggers, grass maintenance and a new hire

The installation of data loggers, a grass and lawn maintenance service decision and a summer student hire for the roads department are some of the items discussed at the April 21 Erin council meeting.

Grass cutting

Mr. Markus Maintenance was awarded the contract for grass cutting and trimming services for the Town of Erin from now until Oct. 31. It is anticipated that the service contract will be about $36,760.

There were six proposals received and Mayor Allan Alls, CAO Kathryn Ironmonger and roads superintendent Larry Van Wyck reviewed them. The review committee then recommended Mr. Markus Maintenance to council but did not give information on the other proposals.

Ironmonger said that the proposals were varied this year and the proposal process needs to be reviewed so applicants understand what is expected of them. Mr. Markus Maintenance has provided these services in the past.

“I would prefer that we allocate the tender to Mr. Markus and go back and look at providing more detail and submit the proposal early in the year versus at this time of the year and submit it in January,” Ironmonger explained.

Summer student

Clayton Lovell was hired in a summer student position in the roads department as a labourer. His pay will be at Grade 5 on the town’s part time grid and he will work for the town until Sept. 4.

Water arrears

Council approved $23,821 worth of outstanding water system bill payments to be added to the account holders’ tax bills. There are 14 accounts affected this year.

Firefighter grant

The Hillsburgh Firefighters Association was given a grant of $2,100 for the rental of the Hillsburgh Community Centre for the annual garage sale. The sale will take place on June 6 and 7.
