Erin appoints new CAO

Nathan Hyde will be taking over as the new chief administration officer in Erin, effective April 3.

Hyde will be stepping into the role held by Derek McCaughan, who was hired as interim CAO when former CAO Kathryn Ironmonger left on medical leave in May 2016. Ironmonger formally stepped down on Jan. 18.

“Council and I are very excited to have Nathan join the town,” said Mayor Allan Alls in a press release.

Hyde has 15 years of public sector experience, including work with municipal, provincial and federal governments in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Prior to joining the town, Hyde was chief of staff for the Region of Peel chair.

“I am confident that the town will benefit from both his extensive public sector experience and approach to sound municipal governance,” said Alls.

Hyde holds Bachelor of Laws and Master of Public Administration degrees, as well as a post-graduate certificate in communications and a level three designation from the Ontario Municipal Managers Institute.

“I am pleased to be joining the town at such an interesting time, with a council that is expressly committed to the betterment of the community,” said Hyde in a press release. “I look forward to working with the members of council, town staff and members of the community to address the challenges ahead and to move the town forward.”

Hyde will be Erin’s fourth full-time CAO in five years.

In April 2012, CAO (town manager) Lisa Hass announced her retirement after 24 years with the municipality. She stayed on contract until June 2012.

Ironmonger, who was serving as clerk, took over temporarily as acting CAO until the hiring of Frank Miele in October of 2012. Just seven months later, on May 7, 2013, Miele was terminated.

Ironmonger was hired as the CAO on June 25, 2013.

McCaughan, interim CAO since June 2016, was to work his last day on March 10.

A press release announcing his departure thanked McCaughan for providing “leadership and stability” and “initiatives that will … move the town forward.”

“We wish Derek much success in his future endeavours,” Alls stated in the  press release.
