Erin”™s newest pilot Evan Moore is only 17 years old

Seventeen-year-old Warrant Officer 2nd Class Evan Moore of 242 Ross Ferguson Squadron in Erin became the town’s most recent recipient of the Air Cadet Power Pilot’s Scholarship on Aug. 25.

Upon completion of seven weeks of intensive training at Discovery Aviation Academy in Sudbury, Ontario, WO2 Moore was presented with his cadet power pilot wings in a special ceremony by Retired Lieutenant Colonel Peter B van Haastrecht, CD.

Moore has been pursuing his goal of becoming a private pilot since joining 242 Squadron in 2012.

After years of hard work, and a demanding selection process, he has finally achieved his dream.

He now joins the growing list of successful pilot scholarship recipients that 242 Squadron has produced in recent years.

Moore will return to 242 Squadron to continue inspiring younger cadets, and passing on his learning and experiences this year.

242 Ross Ferguson Squadron accepts new cadets throughout the school year, and meets at the Erin branch of the Royal Canadian Legion on Tuesday evenings between 6:45 and 9pm.
