Emily Burgess recognized by Town of Minto

Some people can be accused of wearing two hats, but for Emily Burgess it is more like twin tiaras.

Minto councillors took time out to recognize the efforts of Burgess, who has earned the titles of Miss Ontario Fire Fighter 2010-2011 and was first runner-up of the Ambassador of the Fairs at the CNE.

Mayor David Anderson said Burgess is representing the Town of Minto in both capacities.

He said Burgess first won as Miss Ontario Fire Fighter, and then, “She had so much fun at that she decided to participate in the CNE competition.”

Minto Fire Chief Chris Harrow said “It’s an honour to have Emily as our representative.”

“I think years from now we’re going to look back as a fire department and say ‘wow, she was our representative for the fire department and the town of Minto.’ She will go far.”

Harrow quipped, “When you do come back to town, I may get you to write some speeches for me. I hear your speeches were incredible.”

Harrow said Burgess will participate in numerous events as Miss Ontario Firefighter including the coming memorial service at Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Sept. 11.

There she will represent not only the Town of Minto, but the Fire Fighters Association of Ontario.

Burgess said “I’ve had an absolute blast doing all the different competitions representing the Town of Minto. It’s such a wonderful community to represent and I’m so proud.”

She said she’s always ready to tell people where she is from and everything that is happening here.

“I’m really looking forward to bringing Minto, not only back on the map by constantly spreading the word, and representing all of Ontario and hopefully making a good name for our town.”

She also looking forward to all the events she’ll be involved in across the community as well as all over Ontario.

Anderson presented Burgess with certificates for both of her achievements.
