Elora”™s Bob McClure wins five at Grand River Raceway

Driver Bob McClure won five of the 10 races on the July 1 card at Grand River Raceway. Two days prior, he won another three, for a total of nine over three race days in the week.

McClure started his night with a wire-to-wire cruise in race 3 from the rail with Maximus Decimus in 1:58. His second victory came in race 6, rallying from the back of the pack to win a tight photo finish in 2:01 with Wings Of Ballykeel.

McClure finished the night off winning the final three races on the card, narrowly missing four straight with a runner-up finish by a head in race 7. He wired the field in race 8 with Mystic Ice in 1:59 and capitalized on a perfect pocket trip up the passing lane in the stretch to win race 9 with Kablooie in 1:59.3. He wrapped it up in the final dash, setting the fractions on the front-end with an easy winner in Dutch Seelster in 1:59.3.

This win bumps McClure into a tie with Alfie Carroll for the current top dash driver title at Grand River Raceway with 23 wins apiece. McClure won the title for the first time in 2015. He’s currently second in the national standings for wins (211).

The 25-year-old Elora resident is a career winner of 1,076  races, with $6.3 million in purse earnings.
